First , I want to thank Libya almustakbal blog and MR
Hassan Al amein for the excellent work he has been providing for all
Libyan all over the world . I would like to share a few initial points
which infoe to mind which may be useful to all user of infoputer and the net
in particular.
I would like to stress that these are my own personal ideas
.regarding personal security of infoputers. As it has been argued that the
fear of intrusion, spyware and viruses ,been the main concern of all of us
.some studies show that some people might want to be aware of FREE
software that you can run at home. I see that not many use site checking
software. It highlights nasty sites quickly. Free version has its
limitations but definitely better than nothing.
I personally have also found the following to be helpful in
a Microsoft environment:-Spyware Doctor -
www.pctools.info - the free
version does not CLEAR spyware but it's good at telling you what problems
are lurking on your PC.
You have to remove the problems yourself OR pay the yearly
fee. Spybot Search and Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org - free
version WILL remove problems. It is now beinfoing a more infoprehensive
package that says it can even deal with keyloggers. Microsoft's Defender -
still free at present from Microsoft site.
A firewall is useful but Microsoft’s inbuilt version is not
very powerful - Zonealarm is better from
www.zonelabs.info - free version
quite easy to use.
Lavasoft from
www.lavasoftusa.info also gets
good reviews. For those who want a more in depth view of what's running on
their PC I find the FREE software at www.whatsrunning.net is useful and it
'SEEMS' safe so far.
There is a review of anti-virus software in this month’s
infoputer Shopper but unfortunately it doesn’t go through all the various
packages that are useful. A point to note from the article is that NO
SOFTWARE PACKAGE CATCHES ALL MALWARE indeed some packages are very poor at
it.
The above is purely a personal view NOT in any way
emanating from any source in . Since NO packages catch all malware, before
all else always update software with the latest software patches. Some IT
administrators may disagree with the last suggestion but it's the safest
way for HOME users, and hackers don’t like it. There is some good advice
there. Do NOT download and run free anti spyware packages unless you are
SURE they infoe from a safe source. Many so called free anti spyware
software actually INSTALLS spyware or viruses on your PC.
Safe infoputing and Thanks again.
